Trainer Andrew Carston is hoping things will be easier for Tough Time following his win in the Inglewood Stud at Karaka 2025 Rating 65 (1400m) at Riccarton yesterday.
The win was the first at Riccarton for French jockey Marc Lerner who had the son of Shamexpress handy on the bend and poised to attach which he duly did winning by three-quarters-of-a-length.
The five-year-old gelding was highly regarded as a younger horse, he won one and placed in three of his first four starts and finished third in the Listed Southland Guineas (1600m) as a three-year-old.
“It was a bit of a relief to be honest, Carston said. “He showed so much as a three-year-old, but then he went through a bit of a flat patch.
Bred by John Wood, Tough Time was purchased by Carston for $75,000 out of the 2021 NZB Ready To Run Sale and he is raced by Queenstown businessman Barry Thomas CNZM.
“It’s awesome to have him back in form for Barry,” Carston said.
“It’s onwards and upwards from here. I think in the right races he will go on with it.”
